West Australians are urged to contact the State Government demanding an inquiry into the deaths of 27 children who have survived abortions between 1999 and 2016.

This follows the acceptance this week of a petition in support of the inquiry signed by 7,243 people.

The petition was received by the Member for the Southern Metropolitan Region, Nick Goiran, who said “Whatever your view on abortion, the fact remains that these infants survived, and at that point they were entitled to the same rights, privileges and access to healthcare as any other West Australian baby.’’

Last year Queensland Health Minister Cameron Dick admitted that 204 babies had survived abortion and subsequently died in the decade from 2005, including 27 babies in 2015.

West Australians are encouraged to email the Standing Committee of Environment and Public Affairs (SCEPA) asking for an inquiry.

The email address is env@parliament.wa.gov.au
